Olympics!!

Here is the medal count as of this morning. USA is in the lead with 24 medals, just 10 behind our record of 34, set in 2002 in Salt Lake City! I am proud to say that 17 of those medals are the proud owners of skiers and snowboarders, all of whom I have the privelege to work with every day!

We still have six more days of events, so we can easily break the record. Check out the event schedule for the rest of the week here.

Also, I posted this on my Facebook the other day, but it's just too good not to post here as well. Aksel Lund Svindal, Olympic gold medalist in Super G, is in the middle.

Book Update

As of February 9, 2010 I have read six books and am in the middle of number seven! I'm one book ahead of schedule, so I'm feeling really good about my resolution.

I am currently reading Walking the Bible: A Journey by Land Through the Five Books of Moses. This book was made into a PBS documentary special which I plan to watch after I'm done with the book. So far, meh. It's a very interesting idea and the book overall is great, but there are so many details that it makes it too hard to read. I feel like I have to constantly look at a map, or know my Middle East geography. There are so many names and dates and locations, it's like taking a history class. So, if that's what you're in to, then this book is for you!

So far, I've read:

My Sister's Keeper
The Lovely Bones
When You Are Engulfed In Flames
The Hobbit
The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible
The Pleasure of My Company

Next up: Darkly Dreaming Dexter. This is the series that the Showtime series Dexter is based on. I'm so excited!! I need something different that doesn't follow Bible stories...

The Year of Living Biblically

A friend of mine at work lent me a few books for my book-a-week resolution. I started reading The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible, by A.J. Jacobs. I consider myself a very religious person, but my God (no pun intended)! I can't imagine living my life like this, abiding by every single law or rule that's in The Bible.

Straight out of Leviticus, A.J. must avoid wearing clothes made of mixed fibers. He has a shatnez (mixed fiber) tester come to his house to test all of his clothes. He doesn't shave or trim his beard. He has a hard time with the 10th Commandment, Thou shalt not covet, so him and his wife visit an Amish community in Pennsylvania so he can get a better idea of living life without want.

I have only read the first month, but I can tell already that this is going to be a hilarious adventure!
